Michael Van den Abeele on L'étranger, Radio Panik, Brussels
April 05, 2009 01:05 PM PDT
L'étranger is presented by precocious calvinist Kosten Koper and broadcast to the masses (and missa) almost every Tuesday 15h30-16h30, Radio Panik, 105.4FM, Brussels. On 2nd September 2008, Kosten Koper invited Michael Van den Abeele to the studio. Michael Van den Abeele has contributed to the following Komplot projects : Architecture de survie (2008), From Love, With Brussels (2008), Happy x (n) (2006), Wargame (2004). The script for the show went like this : In the mid 1980's a Belgian passenger ship the S.S. Selected was lost in a storm near the coast of the Dutch Antilles. It was rumored there was an outbreak of collective insanity on board with the crew engaging in mutiny and butchering most of the passengers before turning on each other. Ten days after an SOS signal was received and the ship descended into radar and radio silence ; strange transmissions started to be received on the ships emergency radio frequency. Today we present a lost transmission from the Belgian cruiser S.S. Selected. Music selected & played by Michael Van Den Abeele, a lot of selections from his personal archive, plus live performance of two songs. Voice, shouting & signing, all ship (creaking, horns) & storm noises / sound FX plus live mix by Kosten Koper. October 13, 2008 03:52 AM PDT
“How does one speak without giving orders, without claiming to represent something or someone, how does one get those who don’t have the right to speak, and restore to sounds their value of a struggle against power? By being a foreigner in one’s own language, marking a sort of vanishing trace of language” – Gilles Deleuze `Three questions about 6x2’ in: Cahiers du Cinéma, no. 271 (November 1976) Conceived to combine current and historical pieces relating to the voice in contemporary art alongside in-situ creations, VOLLEVOX has programmed eighteen projects in theaters and museums in Brussels (and beyond) since November 2003. In December 2005 Komplot released a VOLLEVOX double CD edition featuring contributions from artists who had contributed to it's VOLLEVOX program, this podcast (in two parts) simply contains all the tracks from the two VOLLEVOX CD's played one after the other with no mixing. The CD with booklet is available on request. CD2 Artist / Track Listing : 1. Dominique Petitgand
